Cloud computing provides the same benefits to small businesses as it does to large companies in terms of outsourcing e.g. payroll and accounting to companies in Asia.
According to one cloud expert, the trend is clear: Small companies are moving administrative tasks outside their own countries through the cloud to streamline their business significantly. One of these companies is Danish company Vopium which has sent all accounting-related tasks for three countries to Pakistan via the e-conomic online accounting system.
Opportunities for streamlining
Large, global companies have long been able to move expensive, administrative tasks to Asia and elsewhere and have synchronized data in their own private cloud. Through the spread of cloud computing, however, small and medium businesses are also looking to become more efficient by centralizing tasks in inexpensive countries, resulting in substantial savings.
- Small and medium businesses now have the same opportunities to streamline their organisation as only large companies have had in the past. For one thing, they no longer have to invest in expensive software licenses. If they need to do their accounts in several countries, they only need one Danish subscription which can then be changed to display texts in other languages with just a few clicks. Using licensed software, you don't have to buy a separate license for each language. Also, they don't have to compromise their security since the data are hosted in Denmark, says SaaS-it Consult CEO Anders Trolle-Schultz.
Utilizing the synergies between companies
The Danish mobile telephony company Vopium, which has 75 employees and subsidiaries in Luxembourg and Pakistan, have replaced the C5 accounting system with the e-conomic online system. Additionally, all accounting, regardless of geography, has been moved to Pakistan.
- Online accounting using a Software-as-a-Service (Saas) model is the perfect match for a company like Vopium where everything has been digitalised and we want to take advantage of the synergy between companies. We have trained a bookkeeper in Pakistan to do the accounting for all three countries by using the e-conomic system in English. The Danish auditor can then log on to review the accounts or create annual reports, even though he is located in Denmark. If his system is set up in Danish, the accounts will also be displayed in Danish. This kind of flexibility is exactly what we need, says Vopium CEO Tanveer Sharif.
Vopium has developed a unique app for smartphones that ensures customers always use the cheapest dialling method. To ensure this, their call may be connected using mobile internet, wireless internet or Vopium's own phone facilities. Today, Vopium has approx. 1 million customers in 49 countries.
Customization without additional costs
With more than 32,000 customers, e-conomic is Denmark's largest company specializing in web-based accounting systems. According to CEO Torben Frigaard Rasmussen, there is a growing demand for flexibility and freedom to decide where and when to do accounting.
- We are very focused on companies like Vopium that need to collaborate across borders. e-conomic can really help these companies since the system can be customized to different languages and regional conditions without additional costs, says Torben Frigaard Rasmussen.
