More and more farmers are realizing that online bookkeeping offers an easy and flexible way of collaborating with their accountant.
A survey from North Jutland accountancy firm Nordland Revision, which specializes in farmholds, shows that 20% of farmers today use the e-conomic online accounting solution. This number has doubled in less than two years, and according to Nordland Revision the percentage continues to rise, especially among medium and large farms.
- Through a close dialogue with us, more and more farmers are realizing that online bookkeeping offers an easy way of cooperating with their accountant. All resources are available online, and everything is collected in one place, allowing both farmers and us to access the system from any location with Internet access. If the farmers encounter a problem with invoicing or booking, we can help straight away by looking into their problem directly from our office, says accountant Lotte Larsen from Nordland Revision.
Correct bookkeeping
Nordland Revision provides services to customers from the agricultural sector as well as other sectors, including business owners, truck drivers etc. In order to offer farmers the best online solution, the company has developed a custom accounting module for farmers in collaboration with e-conomic.
- Since we started creating custom features for the e-conomic system a few years back, things have been moving fast. Many farmers now want to do their bookkeeping themselves, and we then adopt more of a supervisory role. This way, their accounts become more correct because the farmers know better than we do what their money has been spent on, resulting in more exact bookkeeping. However, we don’t allow farmers to do their bookkeeping themselves until we have confirmed that they can do it correctly. This helps prevent that a large number of incorrect enties are booked, says Lotte Larsen.
It is primarily the young generations of farmers that have embraced online accounting. Older generations are still sceptic about keeping information on an external server that can be accessed from the Internet.
- The farmers that choose online bookkeeping see it as an obvious advantage that the system is updated continuously, that they don’t need to back up their data all the time and that they don’t have to invest in new servers, says Lotte Larsen.
Manage their own accounts
At the Bunkhulegaard farm in North Jutland, Anette and Jørn Jakobsen hold 450 hectares of plant cultivation, plus a production of approx. 750 sows and sale of piglets, and have been doing their bookkeeping online for the past four years in close collaboration with Nordland Revision.
- The e-conomic software makes it easy to do the bookkeeping, and we also manage VAT accounts ourselves since the system calculates VAT amounts automatically. In case we have any questions, we can access the system with our accountant at any time and solve the issue straight away. This results in a better collaboration with our accountant and gives us a greater insight into our business. Also, we save money by doing bookkeeping and VAT accounts ourselves, says Anette Jakobsen.
She also notes that the system is automatically updated at all times, and that they don’t need to back up their data.
