Business ethos?
We specialize in IT but we never forget that cutting edge, innovative and inspirational IT can only be created by some very special people. So we would certainly say that people are our top priority. We’re also pretty picky who we partner with – people tend to judge you by your friends - and we’ve spent too much time building ourselves a reputation to risk it by choosing the wrong ones!

What do you do?
We’re an IT Consultancy company, specializing in building top rated WordPress solutions for news and media organizations. Our client list includes Telegraph Media and Informa Telecoms & Media amongst others.

Is online accounting important for your business?
Yes – it seems to me simple common sense, automating as many administrative functions as possible is more efficient and therefore more economical. An additional advantage is no more worrying about costs of hosting software on our server or the responsibility and expenses of regular upgrades/updates.

Why e-conomic?
Obviously we looked at what was out there and as with all things there were swings and roundabouts. We found some of the other systems were simpler at the starting-out point but lacked a depth of functionality which was really important to us. Where e-conomic scores so highly is with Jacqui, Kirsten and the support team - supreme handholders, soothers and solution providers par excellence - better than an online wizard anyday! There’s never been one moment when we’ve felt we’re dealing with a faceless SaaS provider. And, of course, the most important thing is the product does exactly what we need it to and has the potential to do a whole lot more whenever we’re ready.

What level are you?
Annual subscription user.

Savings?
Absolutely! Probably hundreds of dollars every year.

Positives? Negatives?
Flexibility and depth of functionality are great and it was much cheaper than some of the other options like Sage. I’m not a bookkeeper or an accountant, but I do have a finance systems background so I could quickly see that unlike some other systems it would be capable of supporting our business as it grows. It also enables subscriptions which makes it easier for us to give full service clients the option of a lower monthly charge rather than landing them with a bigger annual or periodical bill.

At the time of writing an area for improvement might be the addition of effective dating so the system intelligently updates data changes e.g. the recent VAT changes. The necessary changes can be made simply, but the onus lies with the user to make the change on the right date – it would be far simpler if these universal type of changes could be taken care of centrally and automatically.

We’ve just started using the project management tool – which has automated more admin whilst still allowing us to keep a close track of projects and expenses etc.
